Your eye examination
Forty minutes with one of our ophthalmic opticians, using the latest Zeiss equipment. We explain what we're checking and what we find as we go, so you leave understanding your own eyes.

How it starts
Your eye examination begins with a short conversation about how you feel about your eyesight, and anything you've noticed.
Then your ophthalmic optician tests different parts of your vision and your eye health, explaining what they're doing and sharing what they find along the way.
The equipment
We test on a Frastema turntable unit. The four main testing instruments sit on it and rotate round to you one at a time, so you stay in one comfortable seat while the equipment comes to you.
Our measuring and monitoring equipment is from Zeiss. The Zeiss i.Profiler combines several measurements in one machine, including a wavefront aberrometer, an auto-refractometer and a corneal topographer, to build a detailed picture of your eye.
The OCT scan
Our comprehensive eye examination includes an OCT scan, which gives your optician a detailed view of the layers at the back of your eye.
If something needs a closer look
Very occasionally an eye examination shows something that needs further medical advice, from your GP or a hospital. If that happens, your optician will explain what they've seen and what to do next.
Afterwards
If you need glasses, we move on to your styling consultation, which is included. If you'd like to try contact lenses, we can book a contact lens consultation.
Free NHS eye tests
Some people can get their eye test free on the NHS. Check who qualifies on the NHS website, and mention it when you book.
